What the company says: The first in our Brew Crew Big Beer Series, Arcadia HopMouth Double IPA is a tasty fix for your hop jones. Huge Maris Otter Malt and a more than generous amount of fresh hops make this beer memorable.
What I say: This is my first beer from this brewery out of Michigan but it seems my area is getting more and more of their stuff in. Especially their Big Beer series which this DIPA is from. So be on the lookout for more reviews for these guys.
The Look: Pours a dark amber color with a huge fluffy white head that sticks to the glass.
What the nose thought: Now for being a DIPA the smell is a little muted. Not as big as other DIPAs I’ve had. Citrus and grapefruit smells with piney hops. Biscuit malt smell is there and is balanced well with the hops.
And the tastebuds?: Like with the smell everything seemed a little bit muted for being a DIPA. It’s stuck in between a regular IPA and Double. But also like with the smell, everything is balaced nicely. The citrus and grapefruit smells, the malt, hops, and some caramel thrown in. Not bad but there is better out there.
The feel:The feel is what threw me of a little bit. A lot of Double IPAs are oily and a little thick. This was quite the opposite. Very light and crisp.
Would you drink more?:Tough choice on this one. While not horrible, there are a ton of better IPAs out there I rather throw my money at.
Ending notes: Like I said above this one is hit and miss with me. Not horrible at all but not fantastic. Give it a try if you see it and maybe you’ll get the same results.
